The pre-admission test for the 2024-25 academic session at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) was held on Thursday, January 23, in three shifts from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. A total of 21,856 candidates participated in the test out of the 24,211 eligible applicants, reflecting a 9.73% absentee rate as 2,355 candidates did not attend.
The information was released by BUET’s Public Relations Office on Friday.
According to university sources, the eligible candidates included 17,339 male and 6,872 female students. Each shift was allocated approximately 8,070 candidates, but attendance figures revealed that 7,302 candidates appeared in the first shift, 7,296 in the second shift, and 7,258 in the third shift. The pre-admission test comprised a 100-mark multiple-choice question (MCQ) format.
The admission process at BUET is conducted in two phases: the pre-admission test and the main admission test. Based on the merit ranking from the pre-admission test, the top 2,500 candidates from each shift (under Modules “A” and “E”) will be shortlisted for the main admission test. Additionally, a minimum of 12 candidates from indigenous communities will be selected for the main exam, subject to adequate applications.
Pre-Admission Results on February 4
The merit list of candidates eligible for the main admission test is expected to be published on February 4, followed by the main test on February 13.
The main admission test, lasting two hours, will be conducted in a written format. For Module A and Module B groups, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry exams will take place from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The Module B group will also sit for Freehand Drawing and Visualization & Spatial Intelligence tests from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM. The final list of selected and waitlisted candidates for admission is tentatively scheduled for publication on March 8.
