The government has already started formulating policies for the OTT platform. It will be finalized very soon. If the policy is passed, the platforms will have to follow it.
Hasan Mahmud, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting said that action will be taken against those who violate the policy.
He was responding to a question from reporters after a discussion meeting on the occasion of the Prime Minister’s 75th birthday at the Chittagong Shilpakala Academy auditorium on Saturday (October 2).
At that time, the minister said, the government has not closed any channel. The sky of the country is open. We are only implementing the decisions taken in meeting among the representatives of foreign channels, the cable operators and the owners of TV channels in the country.

Earlier this year, the Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) set up a committee to oversee, control and collect revenue over the publication of over-the-top (OTT) platform-based content. The convener of the 7-member committee is BTRC Commissioner (LL) Abu Syed Diljar Hossain.
A High Court bench of Justice JBM Hasan and Justice Rajik Al Jalil has fixed November 1 for informing the court about the law.
