Global technology giant Salesforce is set to lay off more than 1,000 employees while simultaneously hiring new staff to support its artificial intelligence (AI)-driven product sales, according to a report by Bloomberg News, as cited by Reuters.
The report stated that affected employees would have the opportunity to apply for other positions within the company. However, specific details regarding which departments would be most impacted by the layoffs remain unclear.
Salesforce has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
As of January 31, 2024, the company reported a total workforce of 72,682 employees in its annual report.
Previously, in December, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff revealed that the company had already secured more than 1,000 contracts for “AgentForce,” an AI-powered virtual agent platform.
In January 2024, The Wall Street Journal reported that Salesforce was cutting approximately 700 jobs. Later, in July, Bloomberg News reported an additional 300 layoffs at the company.
Salesforce is scheduled to release its quarterly earnings report on February 26.
