Popular caller ID app Truecaller has introduced real-time caller ID support for iPhone users, a feature that was previously exclusive to Android devices. This became possible with Apple’s new iOS 18, which enables live caller ID lookup functionality, TechCrunch reported.
This marks Truecaller’s first major update following the resignation of co-founders Alan Mamedi and Nami Zarringhalam from their regular responsibilities in November 2024.
Currently, Truecaller has over 2.6 million premium subscribers, of which 750,000 are iOS users. However, 40% of the company’s revenue is derived from iOS customers, who generate 80% more revenue per user compared to Android users.
With the new update, Truecaller has developed a separate encrypted database specifically for iOS. The Apple Phone app sends encrypted requests to this database, retrieving caller information in real time. The entire process is managed through end-to-end encryption.
To activate the new feature, iPhone users need to go to Settings > Apps > Phone > Call Blocking & Identification.
Notably, Truecaller introduced the live caller ID feature in 2023, but it was not real-time. The latest update now enables real-time caller identification.
