India’s smartphone market experienced 5% growth in 2024, with a total of 155.9 million units shipped during the year, according to the latest report by Canalys. Vivo emerged as the leader in shipments, delivering 29.5 million units and capturing a 19% market share. Xiaomi (including Poco) ranked second with 26.6 million units shipped and a 17% market share. Samsung secured third place with 25.7 million units and a 16% share, reports GSMArena.
Oppo (including OnePlus) shipped 18.3 million units, achieving a 12% market share, while Realme followed in fifth place with 16.6 million units shipped and an 11% share.
Analysts attribute the growth to post-pandemic device upgrades and 5G adoption driving consumers to purchase new devices. However, excess stock during the festive season forced significant discounts toward the year’s end.
The final quarter of 2024 saw a 4% year-on-year decline in shipments. During this period, Apple tied with Oppo, each supplying 4 million units and capturing an 11% market share. Apple’s growth was fueled by festive promotions, discounts, and the launch of new iPhone models.
Canalys forecasts single-digit growth for 2025, with strong demand for devices priced between $100 and $200. However, demand is expected to remain low for devices under $100 and in the premium segment.
