In recent months, Apple has been working to increase the presence of its technological devices in households. As part of this effort, the company is reportedly developing a smart doorbell, according to a new report from Bloomberg, as cited by TechCrunch.
The report reveals that the smart doorbell will utilize Apple’s FaceID technology to scan the faces of individuals at the door and automatically unlock the door for residents. It will be wirelessly connected to a deadbolt lock.
According to the report, the smart doorbell is still in its early stages of development and is unlikely to reach the market before 2025. The device could potentially work with Apple’s HomeKit-supported third-party locks, or Apple might partner with a specific lock manufacturer to release it.
Bloomberg further noted that the FaceID-enabled smart doorbell would position Apple to compete with products like Amazon’s Ring, strengthening its foothold in the smart home technology market.
