On Wednesday night, Meta’s services faced widespread disruptions that lasted approximately three and a half hours before returning to normal. Shortly after, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Sora, and its developer-facing API encountered major outages, though the issues have since been resolved. It is not yet confirmed if the two disruptions are related, according to TechCrunch.
These outages coincided with the launch of ChatGPT integration into Apple’s iOS 18.2, which some speculate may have caused increased server traffic, leading to the disruptions. Many users reported difficulties using ChatGPT within Apple Intelligence on social media.
Earlier this week, OpenAI also launched Sora to the public. However, CEO Sam Altman admitted that the company underestimated user interest. Many users were unable to create videos despite signing up, with some receiving messages indicating that OpenAI’s server capacity had been reached on the launch day.
