Social news aggregation and networking platform Reddit has begun testing a new AI-powered feature called “Reddit Answers,” which analyzes posts on the platform to provide answers to users’ questions. The company announced this on Monday, according to Reuters.
Through this feature, users can easily find relevant information on Reddit. It is expected to help Reddit compete with search engine rivals and AI startups like OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, and Perplexity.
The company stated, “After asking a question, a summarized response will be displayed based on relevant conversations and descriptions on Reddit, along with links to related communities and posts.”
Initially, “Reddit Answers” will be available only in English and for a limited number of users in the United States. The feature is expected to expand to other languages and regions in the future.
In the third quarter of 2024, which ended on September 30, Reddit reported a 47% increase in daily active users, reaching 97.2 million. During the same period, the platform’s global average revenue per user rose by 14%, reaching $3.58.
