Following Google, e-commerce giant Amazon has announced plans to use nuclear energy to meet the electricity demands of its data centers, according to a report by Reuters.
The report states that Amazon has already signed three agreements to develop nuclear power technology known as Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). Earlier this week, Google also made an announcement regarding the use of nuclear power.
Amazon revealed that it will invest in capacity assessments for an SMR project near the Northwest Energy site in Washington. The project will be implemented by X-energy. However, the financial details of the project were not disclosed.
Under the agreements, Amazon will purchase electricity generated from four SMR modules.
