Google has unexpectedly removed the Android antivirus app of cybersecurity company Kaspersky from the Play Store, while also deactivating Kaspersky’s developer account, according to a report by Softonic.
The report notes that in June, the U.S. banned the sale of all Kaspersky antivirus software due to alleged ties with Russia. It is speculated that Google’s decision to remove the apps is linked to this ban.
Since last week, users have been unable to download Kaspersky’s Android security, VPN, and antivirus apps from the Google Play Store.
Additionally, a separate allegation has surfaced that Kaspersky was installing antivirus software on PCs without user consent.
In response, Kaspersky stated on its official forum that it is investigating the removal of its apps from the Play Store and will provide a solution as soon as possible.
For now, users can still download the APK files of Kaspersky’s apps from the Galaxy Store, Huawei AppGallery, Xiaomi GetApps, or directly from the Kaspersky website.
