Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal, along with his wife, Gracia Muñoz, took to the streets of Gurugram, India, to personally deliver food orders. This initiative was undertaken to gain firsthand insight into the working conditions of delivery agents and understand the challenges they face.
According to reports, the couple stepped away from their corporate responsibilities for a while, donning the delivery agent uniform as they carried out deliveries.
In a post on his Instagram account, Goyal wrote, “While delivering my second order of the day, I realized that we need to work more closely with our partner restaurants to improve the working conditions of our delivery partners. The restaurants also need to be more empathetic towards them. What do you all think?”
Goyal’s actions quickly went viral on social media, sparking both praise and criticism. Some users pointed out that the luxury motorcycle he used for deliveries was far from the reality of most delivery agents’ experiences. Many highlighted the disparity between his experience and the day-to-day challenges faced by the majority of delivery workers.
