Emirates Airlines, based in the United Arab Emirates, has banned passengers from carrying pagers and walkie-talkies on their flights. The decision was made as a precautionary security measure following recent explosions involving thousands of pagers and walkie-talkies in Lebanon, which were linked to the militant group Hezbollah.
Reports indicate that last month, thousands of Hezbollah’s pagers and walkie-talkies exploded in Lebanon, resulting in the deaths of several fighters and injuring at least 3,000 more. Hezbollah has blamed the apartheid state of Israel for the incident.
In the aftermath of the explosion, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) imposed a ban on the use of all communication devices, including pagers and walkie-talkies, among its members. Following a similar course of action, Emirates Airlines has now implemented the ban.
On Friday, October 4, Emirates Airlines issued a statement on its website advising passengers traveling to or from Dubai, or transiting through Dubai, to refrain from carrying pagers or walkie-talkies in either their checked baggage or cabin baggage.
The airline further stated that any prohibited items found would be confiscated by Dubai Police for security reasons.
