OpenAI’s official X account, known as ‘OpenAI Newsroom,’ has been hacked. The company reported that cryptocurrency scammers took control of the account to share fake token information and promote fraudulent activities, according to TechCrunch.
The report mentioned that the account was primarily used to provide updates about the company’s products and policies. On Monday afternoon, the hacked OpenAI account began sharing fraudulent posts about a fictional cryptocurrency called “$OpenAI.”
The posts falsely claimed that “OpenAI is launching this token and promising to distribute a portion to users.” It also suggested that access to future OpenAI beta programs could be obtained through this cryptocurrency.
The AI startup confirmed that the token is fake, and to prevent users from realizing the scam, comments on the posts were disabled.
