The Government of India has approved the proposal to set up three semiconductor units in Gujarat and Assam with an estimated investment of Rs 1.26 lakh crore. After the country’s Union Cabinet approved the proposals, Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said construction of the three approved units would begin within the next 100 days.
Notably, Tata Electronics Pvt Ltd will set up a semiconductor fab in partnership with Taiwan’s Powership Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp (PSMC). This unit will be set up in Dhalera, Gujarat. For which an investment of approximately Rs 91,000 crore will be made.
Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Pvt Ltd will set up another semiconductor unit at Morigao in Assam with an investment of Rs 27,000 crore.
Ashwini Vaishnav also said that CG Power will partner with Japan’s Renaissance Electronics Corporation and Thailand’s Star Micro Electronics to set up another semiconductor unit at Sanand, Gujarat, for which an investment of Rs 7,600 crore will be made.
