India has taken initiatives to take fluent translation into Indian languages a step further. The country’s government is considering ‘Bhashini’ as an alternative to Google’s translation service. This platform was announced this year itself. Now the Government of India is going to include that language in the expansion of its Digital India plan. About Rs.14,903 crore has been allocated for this purpose.
The platform was recently launched at the G20 Digital Economy Working Group Ministers’ Meet. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, ‘We are building ‘Bhashini‘, an AI powered language translation platform. It will include all the diverse languages of India through digital media’.
Bhashini is a tool that is powered by artificial intelligence and capable of translating multiple languages. So far the platform can work with ten major Indian languages. Soon 22 official languages will be included in the platform.
