The government is buying IT devices including 85,000 laptops for Tk 487 crores 21 lakh 7 thousand 791 for Sheikh Russell Digital Computer Lab. Apart from laptops, 5,000 webcams, 5,000 routers and 5,000 network switches will also be bought.
This equipment will be distributed to 5,000 educational institutions under the ‘Sheikh Russell Digital Lab (Phase II) scheme under the Department of Information and Communication Technology.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal told reporters after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement on Thursday.
Additional secretary of the cabinet department Sahida Akhtar was present at the press conference.
He said there are some institutions including Telephone Silpa Sangstha in procurement agreements in compliance with government procurement rules. The supply has been directed by verifying the minimum bid.
Earlier, at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Issues, the Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority approved the company’s own-funded purchase of equipment, including radar systems at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, instead of government funding.
