From cave paintings to printed books to e-readers, literature has evolved across ages. Now, with the advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI), poetry, prose, and even novels are being written by AI-powered tools like ChatGPT. In a pioneering effort, Dr. Mahfuz Shamim has authored the first AI-generated Bengali novel, “Jubok Jekhane Jemon”, using AI prompts.
The novel delves into original thought, individuality, and the conflict between mechanized life and human emotions, presenting an exploration of how fundamental feelings shape individuals amidst evolving social structures.
Published by Nairita Café, the 16-page book is priced at Tk 400, with an online discount available at Tk 300. Readers can purchase it from Rokomari.com, Prothoma, or visit stall 610 at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair. The foreword has been written by Professor Rahel Rajib of Jagannath University’s Department of Bengali.
Professor Rajib notes that while Dr. Shamim pursued academic studies in literature, his PhD was in IT project management. With over a decade of experience in skills development, his multidisciplinary expertise reflects in his literary pursuits.
According to readers, “Jubok Jekhane Jemon” blends modern society, psychology, and reality, offering a unique literary experience. The AI-driven analytical and creative approach is expected to introduce readers to a new form of storytelling.
Critics observe that AI-generated novels have already piqued curiosity among readers, opening doors to new technological possibilities in literature. They argue that while technology and human life often complement or contrast each other, AI is transforming dream-born thoughts into reality. It translates human emotions into language and diverse formats, making it an undeniable part of the evolving literary landscape. Even as humans remain nostalgic about traditional literature, technology continues to shape creative expression in ways that cannot be ignored or discarded.
