A career meetup and reunion for civil engineers was organized by the Bangladesh Civil Engineers Foundation. The event was sponsored by Meghna Group of Industries (MGI) through its Dhalai Special Cement brand.
According to sources, the gathering took place on Friday, January 31, at Aftabnagar Playground in Dhaka. Engineer Shahjahan Kabir, President of the Bangladesh Civil Engineers Foundation, presided over the event, while Engineer Atiqur Rahman Khan, General Secretary of the Foundation, delivered the welcome speech.
The event was graced by Professor Emeritus Dr. M. Shamim Z. Basunia, an eminent academic and engineering expert, as the chief guest. Distinguished guests included Liakat Ali Bhuiyan, Abdur Razzak, Md. Amirul Islam Khan, Major (Retd.) Md. Altamas Karim, Engineer Shahid Hasan Lion, and Engineer Benazir Ahmed, among other prominent figures.
A major highlight of the event was the exhibition of various corporate stalls, with the Dhalai Special Cement booth drawing significant attention. Engineers and construction professionals visiting the stall learned about the role of rapid-hardening cement in modern construction technology, particularly its effectiveness in accelerating the removal of shuttering.
Professor Dr. M. Shamim Z. Basunia emphasized the importance of using modern technology and skilled labor in building construction, stating, “The application of advanced construction technology and the training of skilled workers are crucial for the industry.”
The discussion also focused on the significance of completing construction projects swiftly in today’s industry. Experts particularly highlighted the role of rapid-hardening cement, such as Dhalai Special Cement, in accelerating infrastructure development.
Construction specialists noted that the use of rapid-hardening cement enables concrete to achieve early strength, facilitating quicker removal of shuttering. As a result, both time and overall project costs can be reduced.
Other speakers at the event included Kazi Md. Mohiuddin, Senior General Manager (Brand) of Meghna Group of Industries; Abdur Razzak, Vice President (Finance) of REHAB and Chairman of Arma Group; Engineer Belal Hossain; and Engineer Riyad Mahmud.
