On Saturday, Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST) marked its 19th founding anniversary with vibrant celebrations, including colorful alpana art, cake-cutting, a pitha festival, poster presentations, balloon releases, a joyful rally, and a discussion session.
The day’s events began at 9:00 AM with Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid hoisting the national flag and the university flag raised by the Treasurer in front of the administrative building. At 10:30 AM, a jubilant rally commenced from the main gate, followed by the inauguration ceremony where the Vice-Chancellor released balloons.
Afterward, the Vice-Chancellor, the Treasurer, and other distinguished guests visited various department-led poster presentations, pitha festival stalls, and alpana art displays. The university’s 27 departments, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Alumni Association, Biplab-24, and entrepreneurial stalls showcased an array of pithas named creatively and tailored to the season, delighting attendees with their variety and taste.

At 1:00 PM, a discussion session was held at the central field of JUST. Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid said, “Despite being situated in a remote region, JUST has earned the pride of being a beacon of light both nationally and internationally. Through collective efforts, the university will stand tall in the global arena in knowledge and science. With research and innovation, JUST will contribute significantly to the nation and the world.” He urged faculty, students, officers, and staff to work together towards this shared goal.
Reflecting on the university’s history, he added, “The blood spilled during the July Revolution has not yet dried. Together, we will work to build a beautiful nation. I pay my deepest respect to those who played a pivotal role in founding this university. We will move the country forward by producing skilled human resources.”
Treasurer Professor Dr. Md. Hossain Al Mamun, speaking as a distinguished guest, assured, “Every effort and contribution of the university will have a global impact. JUST is a part of this progress, and it will continue to advance in the future.”
The session was chaired by Professor Dr. Mir Mosharaf Hossain, Director of the Student Counseling and Guidance Office. Other distinguished guests included Khulna University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim, Islamic University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Naquib Mohammad Nasrullah, JUST Deans’ Committee Convener Professor Dr. Md. Zafirul Islam, eminent educationist and Regent Board member Professor Nargis Begum, Proctor Dr. Md. Amzad Hossain, Registrar Engineer Md. Ahsan Habib, and Rashed Khan, Convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Jessore chapter.
Faculty deans, department chairpersons, office heads, teachers, students, officers, and staff attended the program. The event was coordinated by Assistant Director A.H.M. Shahariar of the Student Counseling and Guidance Office. The celebrations concluded with a captivating cultural program featuring performances by students and guest artists in the evening.
Established on January 25, 2007, JUST occupies 35 acres of land in Sajiuli mouza of Churamonkati Union in Jessore Sadar Upazila. Currently, the university has eight faculties with 27 departments offering undergraduate, postgraduate, MPhil, and PhD programs. With 4,622 students, 349 faculty members, 163 officers, and 346 staff, JUST continues to make significant strides in higher education and research.
