Sarjis Alam, a key coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and chief organizer of the National Citizens’ Committee, has announced his resignation as the General Secretary of the July Martyrs Memorial Foundation. On Wednesday, January 22, Sarjis shared the news in a statement posted on his verified Facebook account.
In his post, Sarjis wrote, “I am no longer serving as the General Secretary of the July Martyrs Memorial Foundation. Changes have been made to the foundation’s constitution, structure, and processes to accelerate its activities. From now on, the Executive Committee will manage all operational matters of the office, with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) serving as the head of the office. Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho is currently serving as the CEO. The ‘Governing Body’ will focus on policy-making for the foundation, comprising the honorable chief advisor and four other advisors (health, social welfare, local government, ICT). There is no longer a position titled General Secretary.”

Sarjis further explained, “The foundation began providing financial assistance on October 1, and the office officially opened on October 15. I assumed the role of General Secretary on October 21 and served until December 31, approximately two months and ten days. I stepped down from the role thereafter, with my signing authority officially transferred on January 7, marking the conclusion of my responsibilities. By December 31, financial assistance had been provided to 628 out of 826 verified martyr families and to approximately 2,000 of the 11,000 verified injured individuals.”
Reflecting on his resignation, he added, “I served as long as I could give my maximum time to the foundation. When I realized it would no longer be possible for me to dedicate the required time, I stepped down. Acknowledging my limitations and acting accordingly is not a weakness; it takes courage to make such decisions. I tried to remain honest with the responsibilities of my position.”
The July Martyrs Memorial Foundation, established to provide financial assistance to the injured and the families of martyrs from the July uprising, recently restructured its organizational framework to enhance operational efficiency.
