In a move to raise awareness about responsible internet usage among students, the establishment of cyberbullying prevention committees in all educational institutions across Sherpur district has been mandated. The directive was issued by Abu Sayeed Md. Kamruzzaman, Director General of the National Cyber Security Agency and Additional Secretary, during a cyber safety seminar on Monday at the Sherpur Deputy Commissioner’s conference center.
Organized jointly by the local district administration and the National Cyber Security Agency, the seminar was attended by over 150 participants, including officials from various departments, students, teachers, guardians, and journalists. At the start of the event, seminar materials and cyber safety leaflets were distributed among attendees.
As part of the event, laptops were distributed to 105 women trainees under the ICT Division’s project Her Power: Empowering Women Through Technology. The distribution was led by the Director General of the National Cyber Security Agency.
The seminar began with a welcome speech by Sherpur District ICT Officer Md. Tarekul Islam. Additional District Commissioner (Education and ICT) Mohammad Rajib-ul-Ahsan and the President of the District Press Club, Kakan Reza, also participated as speakers.
The keynote address was delivered by Abu Sayeed Md. Kamruzzaman, who emphasized, “Every educational institution in Sherpur must establish a committee to prevent cyberbullying.” He further stressed the importance of responsible internet use at all levels, noting, “Family values play a crucial role in steering young minds away from the world of cybercrime.”
During the seminar, the speakers addressed various topics, including cyberbullying, data protection, safe internet practices, and ongoing and future initiatives of the National Cyber Security Agency.
Additional District Commissioner Rajib-ul-Ahsan urged attendees to secure their email passwords, noting, “Protecting email credentials can prevent many unwanted incidents.” He also called for mutual respect in the digital sphere.
Kakan Reza, President of the Sherpur District Press Club, highlighted the importance of eliminating low-cost shared hosting to enhance website and personal data security. He encouraged teachers to take proactive steps to address cyberbullying and stressed the need to reduce screen addiction to foster a culture of cyber awareness.
