Atish Dipankar Science and Technology University (ADUST) has officially launched its Journalism Association with Suman Sikder of News 24 Television elected as president and MJ Jewel of Baishakhi Television as general secretary.
The committee was announced during a general meeting held at the Journalism and Media Studies Department auditorium on Friday, February 10. On the same day, the university’s Agribusiness Department organized a Winter Pitha Festival at the university. Dr. A. N. M. Ehsanul Haque Milan, former State Minister of Education and Director of ADUST Skill Development Institute, was the chief guest, alongside Dr. Md. Sirajul Haque Chowdhury, member of the University Board of Trustees, and member-secretary Mohammad Kamruzzaman Litu. The event was chaired by the university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam, with the program conducted by the Department Chairman, Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain.

Other distinguished guests included Professor Dr. Mirza Hasanuzzaman, Advisor of the Agribusiness Department, Registrar Mohammad Abdul Kaiyum Sardar, Department Coordinator Mohammad Wahidul Islam, Assistant Professors Samira Islam and Dr. Mohibul Hasan, Lecturer Fariha Nur, Naima Jannat, and Adjunct Faculty Member of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Masudul Hasan. Faculty, staff, and students from various departments attended the event, which was also marked by vibrant cultural performances from students.
After the event, a formal notification signed by Mohammad Shamsul Alam Liton, Chairman of the University Board of Trustees, and Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam, Vice Chancellor, officially approved the first committee of the ADUST Journalists Association.
Other members of the committee include Vice President Sanjida Akter Shabnam (Daily Jago Jonata), Joint General Secretary Imon Hossain (Noya Shatabdi), Organizational Secretary Aminul Islam (Dhaka Post), Finance Secretary Rahim Sheikh (The News Tribune), Office Secretary Nahid Hasan Shuvo (Onnodiganta), Publicity and Publication Secretary Abdur Razzak Raj (Daily Dinkal), and Literature and Culture Secretary Mariam Jim (Freelancer).

Additionally, the following members were selected: Shibly Sadik (Freelancer), Mominul Islam (Swadesh Bangla), Milon Hossain (Desh Bulletin), Roman Raihan (Freelancer), Sumona Akter Sweety (Freelancer), Tasnia Hasan Orpita (News for Justice), Khairul Islam Munna (Ajker Darpan), and Naeem Ahmed (Freelancer).
Congratulating the new committee, Dr. A. N. M. Ehsanul Haque Milan, former Education Minister and Director of the Skill Development Institute, said, “I congratulate all the members of the new committee. At the same time, I hope these leaders will play a crucial role in society through fair and ethical journalism.”
In his address, Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam, Vice Chancellor, said, “The Journalism and Media Studies Department is a new addition to the university. In a short time, it has gained great popularity. The ADAST Journalism Association has been formed with students from this department along with others from different departments. I hope this journalistic organization will contribute to the country’s development through professional growth and ethical, fearless journalism.”
Mohammad Shamsul Alam Liton, Chairman of the University Board of Trustees, remarked, “The ADUST Journalism Association has been formed with students working in various leading media organizations in the country. I hope the leaders of this organization will take initiatives for the professional development of students. They will also contribute to the country’s overall development through objective and research-based journalism. I extend my best wishes and prayers to all members of the new committee.”
