On Friday evening, two computer traders were injured in a violent attack at ECS Computer City (Multiplan) on Elephant Road in the capital. Among the victims, Md. Ehtesamul Haque, Joint Member Secretary of ECS Computer City, sustained critical injuries and was admitted to Popular General Hospital & Diagnostic Center. The other victim, Md. Wahidul Hasan Dipu, President of the Elephant Road Computer Traders Welfare Association, was discharged from the hospital after treatment.
The victims were reportedly attacked without warning as they were leaving the market. Ehtesamul was assaulted on the road in front of the market, while Dipu was attacked inside his car by armed assailants wielding sharp weapons. The attackers, identified as outsiders, also vandalized two cars in the underground parking area. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the perpetrators.
In protest, the Elephant Road computer traders called for a shutdown of the market from 2 PM on Saturday, alongside a human chain demonstration. The incident has left the market in a tense state, with law enforcement and intelligence officials visiting the scene for investigation. Preparations for legal action are underway.
Md. Nazrul Islam Hazari, Vice President of the Elephant Road Computer Traders Welfare Association (ECS), told DigiBangla, “We had an event last night. As our members were leaving the program, unknown assailants launched the attack.”
Describing the CCTV footage, he added, “One of the attackers entered the ramp with a machete. As Dipu Bhai was taking out his car, and Ehtesam Bhai was nearby on the road, they were both brutally attacked. Around 7–8 assailants surrounded Ehtesam and injured his hands and legs severely. Dipu’s car was vandalized, and as he ran towards the market, he was struck on the leg.”
Both victims are preparing to file individual cases, while the market committee is also planning to lodge a complaint seeking enhanced security. “In protest, we will hold a human chain from 2 PM today. The entire Elephant Road might shut down as traders stand united,” said Hazari.
Notably, both victims were elected in the ECS Executive Committee election (2025–2026) held on Saturday (December 28) at the BCS office in Dhanmondi. Md. Wahidul Hasan Dipu was elected unopposed as President.
