The July Uprising Directorate, operating under the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, is set to commence its activities next month. This announcement was made by Mohammad Nahid Islam, Advisor to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during a press briefing held at Rail Bhaban in Dhaka on Monday, January 6.
Highlighting the scope of the directorate’s responsibilities, the advisor stated that the July Uprising Directorate will focus on assisting families of martyrs, rehabilitating the injured, and addressing various aspects of the uprising.
Regarding financial support for the families of martyrs and the injured, he said that the government has allocated a phased budget of 6.37 billion BDT through the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs. Starting next week, 2.32 billion BDT will be distributed to the families of martyrs and the injured. As part of this allocation, savings bonds worth 1 million BDT will be provided to each martyr’s family.
The remaining 4.05 billion BDT will be disbursed in July of the 2025-2026 fiscal year. Each martyr’s family will receive 2 million BDT from this allocation. Financial assistance for the injured will vary based on the severity of their injuries. Additionally, starting in July, the severely injured from the uprising will receive monthly allowances.
The press briefing was attended by Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan, Advisor to the Ministry of Railways; Faruq E Azam Bir Pratik, Advisor to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs; Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho, CEO of the July Martyr Memorial Foundation; and Dr. Tasnim Jara, among others.
