The Narsingdi unit of Chhatra Dal held a press conference condemning what they termed as false and baseless posts from two verified Facebook pages, “Bangladesh Awami League” and “Desh Ratna Sheikh Hasina,” targeting their district president, Siddiqur Rahman Nahid. The press briefing was held on Tuesday afternoon, December 24, at the Narsingdi district BNP office in Chinispur.
In a written statement, Narsingdi Chhatra Dal General Secretary Mehedi Hasan Rifat strongly protested the posts. He said, “The official Facebook page of Bangladesh Awami League published a false, baseless, and fabricated post about Siddiqur Rahman Nahid, president of Narsingdi district Chhatra Dal. Four days earlier, another similar false propaganda was spread using a Facebook account named ‘Desh Ratna Sheikh Hasina.’ The conspiracy against Siddiqur Rahman Nahid by the Awami League is nothing new. During the past fifteen years of Sheikh Hasina’s fascist regime, Nahid has endured severe repression, including 35 politically motivated cases, six instances of imprisonment, and over eight months of enforced disappearance. Due to the last false political case and imprisonment before their fall from power, Nahid was even deprived of attending the funeral prayers and burial of his elder brother and mother.”
He further stated, “During the anti-government movement in July-August, when Madhabdi Municipality Chhatra Dal activist Shaon was killed, the plaintiff of the case, Oliullah, was abducted and pressured to withdraw the case against Sheikh Hasina and other national and local leaders. When Oliullah was rescued, and the conspiracy thwarted, Siddiqur Rahman Nahid became a target of the Awami League. Consequently, in a premeditated and vindictive effort to tarnish his image and discredit him, his personal photo was edited and circulated on Facebook as part of a smear campaign.”
Speaking at the press conference, Narsingdi district Chhatra Dal President Siddiqur Rahman Nahid said, “On December 16, during a Victory Day sports event at Satirpara Kali Kumar High School field, my photo was taken. That image has now been edited and circulated on Facebook, falsely showing a pistol-like object on my waist using AI technology. This is entirely false and fabricated. We have filed a General Diary at the police station and are taking legal action.” He also noted that BNP Joint Secretary General and Narsingdi district BNP Convener Khairul Kabir Khokon, along with Member Secretary Manzur Elahi, strongly condemned the incident.
The press conference was attended by Chhatra Dal leaders, including Office Secretary Rabbi Mia, Deputy Office Secretaries Afzal Hossain Molla and Pratyay Pradhan, and leaders Ibn Adel Shoshi and Sajib Pal Jhumon, among others.
