Passengers of the Dhaka Metro Rail are facing difficulties due to delays in issuing single-journey tickets. In response, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has apologized for the inconvenience and announced the implementation of an alternative system using QR codes for travel.

In a statement posted on its verified Facebook page on Tuesday (December 17) night, DMTCL acknowledged the issue, explaining that the increased number of passengers at key metro stations has caused delays in ticket issuance. The problem is further exacerbated by ticket malfunctions due to improper returns and other technical issues.
DMTCL stated, “We warmly welcome you to DMTCL. Due to the rise in passenger numbers, issuing single-journey tickets at key stations is taking more time. Additionally, several tickets have become invalid due to improper handling. To resolve this issue, new single-journey tickets are being procured, and an alternative system using QR codes for travel is being introduced. We expect the situation to improve by the end of December 2024. We sincerely apologize for this temporary inconvenience and kindly request passengers to allow sufficient time while arriving at stations.”
To address the ticket shortage, DMTCL had earlier announced that an additional 20,000 single-journey cards would arrive within December 2024. This follows the distribution of 20,000 cards to stations in November.
