Secretary of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division, Shish Haider Chowdhury, has urged the Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh to provide employment opportunities for both skilled and unskilled youth in Japan. He emphasized that in the current era of the Fifth Industrial Revolution, the ICT sector is a driving force in the economy, and Bangladesh’s youth can be the best workers in Japan’s ICT sector.
In response, Japan’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Iwamiya Kiminori, strongly supported the interim government, stating, “Just last week, I conveyed this message to the Chief Adviser. Both the public and private sectors must adopt a competitive, cooperative, and long-term comprehensive plan for ICT development. If the business environment improves, more investments will come from Japan to Bangladesh. The internet shutdown during the previous government’s tenure tarnished the country’s reputation. I hope the current government will never repeat this, while ensuring transparency and accountability, and relieving the extra burdens on Japanese investors.”
Meanwhile, ICT Secretary Shish Haider stated, “Even though we have built digital public infrastructure, we feel a lack of coordination in eliminating digital inequality. In these times, Japan is our trusted friend. With the support of the Japanese government and investors, we will be able to strengthen our backbone in the future.”
The remarks were made at the ‘BASIS Japan Day 2024’ event, organized by the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) at the Renaissance Dhaka Gulshan Hotel in the capital on Tuesday. The event was moderated by BASIS Japan Desk Chairman AKM Ahmedul Islam Babu, and attended by Yasue Yoshinari, Director and Vice President of Miyazaki University, Japan; Ichiguchi Tomohide, Chief of JICA Bangladesh; and Tarik Rafi Bhuiyan (June), President of the Japan-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JBCCI), among others.
During the event, certificates were awarded to the 9th batch of the Japan Language Education Program B-MIT, organized by BASIS in coordination with Miyazaki University.
