Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) commemorated Victory Day 2024 with an array of events, including floral tributes at the Monihar Victory Monument, sports competitions, the final match of the Shaheed Abu Sayeed and Mir Mugdho Memorial Inter-Department Football Tournament, and prayers for the martyrs at the university’s central mosque.
The celebrations began on Monday at sunrise with the hoisting of the national and university flags in front of the administrative building. This was followed by a mini-marathon, featuring participation from teachers, students, and officials.
At 9:00 AM, JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid, accompanied by university members, laid wreaths at the Monihar Victory Monument in Jashore town. Subsequently, various departments, offices, and cultural and social organizations from the university paid their respects by offering floral tributes at the monument.
The day-long festivities included sports competitions such as kabaddi, races, traditional games like Dariabandha, Kanamachi, Harivanga, Gollachut, and Pachguti, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from teachers, students, officials, and staff.
After the Zohr prayers, a special prayer and supplication were held at the university’s central mosque, seeking eternal peace for the souls of the martyrs of the Liberation War. The prayer session was led by the Senior Imam of the mosque, Maulana Md. Akramul Islam.
At 2:30 PM, the final match of the Shaheed Abu Sayeed and Mir Mugdho Memorial Inter-Department Football Tournament was held. The match saw the Physical Education and Sports Science (PESS) Department triumph over the Accounts and Information Systems (AIS) Department with a 1-0 victory, securing the championship.
Later in the day, an awards ceremony for the sports competitions and the football tournament, as well as a project presentation contest titled What Kind of Campus Do We Want, was held. JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid graced the event as the chief guest.
In his speech, Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid stated, “I pray for the eternal peace of all martyrs of the Liberation War, Language Movement, and the 1969 mass uprising. We must remain united for the sake of our country. External enemies are still conspiring to hold us back and weaken our unity, but we must resist these attempts with collective strength. Along with staying united, we should strive to become humble and humane individuals to build a prosperous nation.” He also extended Victory Day greetings to all citizens, expatriates, and members of the JUST family.
The closing ceremony was presided over by Dr. Md. Rafiul Hasan, Director of the Department of Physical Education. Present at the event were the tournament organizing committee convener Professor Dr. Md. Nasim Reza, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Dr. Md. Amjad Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Professor Dr. Md. Jafirul Islam, Director of the Student Counseling and Guidance Office Professor Dr. Md. Mir Mosharraf Hossain, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Deepak Kumar Mondal, and officials from the Department of Physical Education, including Md. Abdullah-Hel Kafi, Ujjal Chandra Sutradhar, and Md. Raihan Rakib. Faculty members, students, officers, and staff from various departments also attended.
The program was coordinated by Assistant Director Md. Abdul Wahed and Physical Instructor Md. Shahinur Rahman of the Department of Physical Education.
In addition, special meals were served to students in all residential halls as part of the Victory Day celebrations.
