Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University, Bangladesh (BDU), celebrated Victory Day with a variety of programs throughout the day. The observance began on Monday at sunrise with the hoisting of the national flag at the academic building by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Abu Yusuf. At 8 a.m., the Vice-Chancellor, accompanied by university officials and faculty, paid tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War by placing floral wreaths at the National Martyrs’ Memorial.
Among those present were the university’s Treasurer, Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain; Registrar, Muhammad Ataur Rahman Khan; department heads; the Proctor; dormitory provosts; faculty members; officers; and staff.
Following the wreath-laying ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor paid homage to the heroic freedom fighters, language martyrs, those who sacrificed their lives during the mass uprisings of the 1990s, and the student protests of July-August. He prayed for the eternal peace of their souls. Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mohammad Abu Yusuf said, “We must never forget the sacrifices of those who shed their blood and made immense sacrifices for the country during the Liberation War.”
After the Vice-Chancellor’s tribute, the university’s Officers’ Association also laid wreaths in remembrance of the martyrs. At 11 a.m., students from the university dormitories, led by their respective provosts, placed floral tributes at the memorial in Kaliakair.
The Victory Day celebration featured various sports activities organized by the dormitories. The academic and administrative buildings, as well as the dormitories, were decorated with colorful lighting. In the evening, special festive meals were arranged for students in the dormitories to mark the occasion.
