Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) commemorated Martyred Intellectuals Day 2024 through a series of solemn programs, including the hoisting of black flags, the lowering of the national and university flags to half-mast, the offering of floral tributes at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in Jashore town, and special prayers for the departed souls of the martyrs.
The day’s observance began at sunrise with the hoisting of black flags and lowering of the national and university flags to half-mast in front of the university’s administrative building. At 9:00 AM, on behalf of JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid, the Dean’s Committee Convenor Professor Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam led a delegation of university officials to lay wreaths at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in Shankarpur, Jashore. Later, the Munshi Meherullah Hall of JUST also offered floral tributes at the memorial.
Following the Zuhr prayer, a special prayer and supplication were held at the university’s central mosque for the forgiveness and eternal peace of the martyrs’ souls. During a brief speech, JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid said, “I pay my deep respects to all martyrs of the Liberation War, the nation’s brightest sons and daughters who were martyred, and those who sacrificed their lives in the July Uprising. Their sacrifices for the country must never be forgotten. We must love our country and work for its progress. External enemies are still conspiring to set us back and weaken our unity, but we must remain united to thwart these conspiracies. By fostering unity among all religions and communities, we can propel our nation forward.”
The programs were attended by JUST Dean Dr. Md. Amjad Hossain, Professor Dr. Md. Jafirul Islam, Dr. Md. Munibur Rahman, Dr. Md. Korban Ali, Professor Dr. Md. Ziaul Amin, Registrar Engineer Md. Ahsan Habib, Director of the Student Counseling and Guidance Office Professor Dr. Md. Mir Mosharraf Hossain, department chairs, office heads, faculty members, students, officers, and staff.
The special prayers and supplications at the mosque were led by JUST Central Mosque’s Senior Imam, Maulana Md. Akramul Islam.
