The interim government has granted preliminary approval to the draft of the Cybersecurity Ordinance 2024 following the repeal of the controversial Cyber Security Act. The approval was given during a meeting of the Advisory Council on Thursday, December 12, chaired by Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
Before becoming law, the draft ordinance must undergo further review and gain final approval.
Once enacted, the ordinance is expected to establish a robust legal framework to address cybersecurity challenges in Bangladesh. Experts believe it will strengthen the nation’s cybersecurity infrastructure, enhance digital safety, and protect citizens from online threats.
According to sector specialists, the government is emphasizing the ordinance’s importance to safeguard the country’s online infrastructure amid growing risks of cyber threats. The law aims to ensure better protection of both public and private digital assets.
