The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) at Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST) officially began its academic journey by welcoming its inaugural batch of students through a vibrant ceremony. The event, held on Wednesday in the department’s classroom, was marked by cake-cutting, flower presentations, and crests for the new students.
Professor Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Biological Science and Technology, attended as a special guest. In his address, he emphasized the significance of research at JUST and encouraged the students to develop their skills and potential. “You are part of history as the first batch of this department. Make the most of this opportunity and take the university’s reputation forward,” he remarked. He also reiterated the university’s zero-tolerance policy against ragging and harassment and assured students of support in addressing any challenges they face.
The event was chaired by Dr. Md. Alauddin, Chairman of the BMB Department, and featured speeches from distinguished faculty members, including Professor Dr. Md. Ziaul Amin, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine; Dr. Selina Akter, Chairperson of the Department of Microbiology; Dr. Farzana Sultana, Chairperson of the Department of Pharmacy; and Associate Professor Dr. Md. Omar Faruk from the Department of Nutrition and Food Technology.
The program also included words of inspiration from Tanvi Akter Tama, a student of the inaugural batch, and was moderated by Nishat Chandni Liza, a student of the Department of Nutrition and Food Technology.
