The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) organized a workshop on “Public Procurement and Financial Management” on Monday, November 25. The event took place in the Academic Council Room of CUET and was graced by the presence of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiyan as the chief guest.
Special guests included Prof. Dr. Mohammad Samsul Arefin, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering; Prof. Dr. Kazi Afzalur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering; and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rashidul Hasan, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning.
The keynote speaker for the workshop was CUET Comptroller Shafiqul Islam, while IQAC Director Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman Bhuiyan chaired the session. The event was moderated by IQAC Section Officer Md. Imran Hossain.
In his address, Prof. Dr. Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiyan emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in all operational levels, particularly in public procurement. He stated, “Ensuring transparency and efficiency in government procurement is essential to curbing corruption and irregularities. Adherence to procurement laws and regulations, coupled with timely and skilled execution, can establish good governance and enhance service quality. Mutual trust and compliance between buyers and suppliers are crucial for achieving this goal. Financial discipline, transparency, and accountability must be upheld in compliance with government regulations, treating financial integrity as a collective responsibility and a national duty to combat corruption and build a prosperous nation.”
The workshop highlighted the importance of implementing financial policies effectively and maintaining robust procurement practices to ensure good governance and foster development.
