The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) organized a seminar titled “Research-Based Teaching-Learning for Engineering Education in Bangladesh” on Wednesday. The event was held in the Academic Council Room and presided over by IQAC Director Professor Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman Bhuiyan.
CUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mahmood Abdul Matin Bhuiyan attended as the chief guest, emphasizing the crucial role of research in national progress and the challenges posed by the Fourth Industrial Revolution. He stressed that without a robust foundation in research, building a skilled and capable workforce for state development is impossible. He further underscored the necessity of timely actions and internationally coordinated research to enrich engineering education and maintain competitiveness in the global market.
The seminar featured Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam, former Vice-Chancellor of CUET and a professor of the Civil Engineering Department, as the keynote speaker. Special guests included deans from various faculties:
- Professor Dr. Sudip Kumar Pal (Civil and Environmental Engineering)
- Professor Dr. Mohammad Samsul Arefin (Electrical and Computer Engineering)
- Professor Dr. A.H. Rashedul Hossain (Science and Technology)
- Professor Dr. Muhammad Rashidul Hasan (Architecture and Planning).
The welcome address was delivered by IQAC Additional Director Professor Dr. Md. Sanaul Rabbi, with the session moderated by IQAC Section Officer Md. Imran Hossain.
Professor Dr. Mahmood Abdul Matin Bhuiyan highlighted the importance of universities in creating, disseminating, and preserving new knowledge through continuous research. He remarked, “Without research, nations cannot achieve their desired success. Proper planning and research are essential for solving critical issues timely. Engineering education, in particular, demands greater emphasis on research for innovation and global integration.”
This seminar is part of CUET’s ongoing efforts to strengthen engineering education through research-driven approaches, contributing to national development and global competitiveness.
