Interim Government Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus shared his vision for the future of Bangladesh, emphasizing justice, human rights, and freedom of speech. Speaking at a conference organized by the Center for Governance Studies (CGS) at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, he highlighted the aspirations of the nation’s youth to build a society founded on fairness and equality.
The conference saw the participation of hundreds of representatives from around the globe. Moderated by CGS Executive Director Zillur Rahman, the event featured addresses by notable figures, including former U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas. Over three days, more than 200 speakers from 80+ countries and 300 representatives are set to engage in 77 sessions, with attendees from various fields, including academia, journalism, business, politics, and diplomacy.
Dr. Yunus urged international participants to witness the aftermath of the historic July-August incidents, which he referred to as “the most brutal massacres in history.” He encouraged them to explore the streets of Dhaka and observe the vivid murals expressing the emotions and aspirations of the youth, symbolizing their revolutionary spirit.
“This revolution had no designer, no central plan, and no institutional funding. It was powered solely by the strength of the youth,” Dr. Yunus remarked.
Criticizing the current state of global civilization, he said, “Our civilization has failed us, harming the environment and driving humanity into an endless pursuit of profit. Let us build a new civilization based on the Three Zeros model, ensuring equitable resource distribution for all.”
Reflecting on Bangladesh’s resilience, Dr. Yunus added, “Despite challenges like economic disparity, social injustice, and climate change, Bangladesh has consistently demonstrated its ability to overcome adversity.” He noted that the unity and collective strength showcased during the July Revolution have the potential to reshape the course of history.
Dr. Yunus concluded by urging everyone to remain united in the face of injustice and to work collaboratively for the nation’s welfare. He expressed hope that the conference would serve as a platform to share ideas and inspire action toward creating a better world.
