The government will outline a plan within five working days for the medical treatment of those injured during the July-August uprising, announced Md. Nahid Islam, Advisor for Posts, Telecommunications & IT, and Information & Broadcasting. Additionally, a special task force is being assigned to oversee and enhance the quality of care provided to those hospitalized.
Speaking on Thursday evening (November 14) after a meeting with injured students and civilians at the Health and Family Welfare Ministry’s conference room, Nahid Islam emphasized the government’s commitment to their rehabilitation. The meeting was attended by other advisors, including Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Advisor for Youth & Sports and Local Government.
When asked about the injured being forced to protest, Nahid Islam stated, “This was entirely unfortunate. However, the injured and martyrs are not merely connected to the government; they belong to the nation and its people. Honoring them is the duty of every citizen, and the government is taking steps in this regard. However, political narratives and media discussions have given them insufficient attention.”
He added, “No government directive was involved here. Supporting martyrs and the injured is a political and national obligation. It’s crucial that no negligence occurs in fulfilling this responsibility.”
Addressing demands for elections, Nahid Islam said, “When national discussions should focus on the martyrs and injured, political parties are shifting the conversation to elections and blame games, fostering mistrust. I urge everyone to center their efforts on supporting the injured and their families, both through government and private initiatives.”
The advisor outlined immediate and long-term plans for rehabilitation and treatment, stating, “A timeline has been set to deliver a framework within five working days. By December, short-term measures will be implemented, and efforts for long-term solutions will commence.”
Dr. Sayedur Rahman, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor, highlighted efforts to coordinate between government ministries and private organizations to ensure lifelong medical care, rehabilitation, and employment for the injured.
The meeting was attended by key advisors, including Noorjahan Begum (Health), Sharmin S. Murshid (Social Welfare), Farida Akhtar (Fisheries & Livestock), and Mahfuz Alam (Advisor for Telecommunication and Broadcasting). Student leaders such as Hasnat Abdullah and representatives of the July Martyr Memorial Foundation, including Sarjis Alam and Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdh, were also present, along with over 100 injured individuals.
