In a move to simplify the tax filing process, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) of Bangladesh introduced an online tax return filing system for taxpayers on September 9. This system enables individual taxpayers to prepare and submit their tax returns online, quickly and conveniently, through the NBR’s website.
For the 2024-2025 fiscal year, more than 200,000 taxpayers have filed their returns online, while around 1 million individuals have registered for online tax submission. Confirming the figures, NBR Director (Public Relations) Syed A. Mu’men explained that the e-return system has been enhanced to be more user-friendly, allowing individuals to file returns seamlessly on the NBR website.
Taxpayers can now make payments using internet banking, card payments, and mobile banking. Additionally, they can download copies of submitted returns, acknowledgments, tax certificates, and TIN certificates, as well as access previously submitted e-returns for review and printing.
The NBR has also set up a call center (09643717171) to assist taxpayers with any issues related to e-returns during office hours. Further support is available through the eTax Service option at www.etaxnbr.gov.bd, where taxpayers can report issues via email. An instructional video on e-return submission is available on the NBR’s official website (www.nbr.gov.bd), YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/@nbr.bangladesh), and Facebook page (www.facebook.com/nbr.bangladesh).
To support taxpayers, NBR launched its Tax Information Service Month on November 3, providing continuous tax assistance across 869 circles in 41 tax regions throughout the country, including Dhaka and Chattogram.
As part of new compliance measures, online tax return submission has been made mandatory for all government employees, scheduled banks, mobile telecom service providers, and several multinational corporations in Dhaka North, Dhaka South, Gazipur, and Narayanganj City Corporations. The e-return system was initially introduced in 2021, with 61,491 returns submitted that year, 244,481 in 2022-2023, and 526,487 in 2023-2024.
