Since the National Board of Revenue (NBR) of Bangladesh launched its online tax return filing system on September 9, more than 163,000 taxpayers have submitted their income tax returns online as of November 2. NBR Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan shared this information during a press conference at NBR’s headquarters in Dhaka on November 3.
The NBR introduced the online return filing system to simplify income tax compliance for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. Using the NBR website, individual taxpayers can easily prepare and submit their returns digitally. According to Khan, daily submissions have ranged from 8,000 to 10,000 returns, with numbers expected to peak at 50,000 to 100,000 closer to the deadline.
Highlighting the security of the e-return platform, the chairman assured taxpayers that their data is fully protected and accessible only to designated officials within each tax circle. Sufficient cybersecurity measures have been implemented to prevent any unauthorized access or cyber threats, with NBR also storing data securely.
NBR has announced its plan to phase out paper returns in the future, encouraging taxpayers to use the online platform for timely submissions. Congratulating those who have already filed electronically, NBR urged remaining taxpayers to submit their returns online before the deadline.
In addition, NBR launched “Income Tax Information Service Month,” which will run throughout November to assist taxpayers in filing their returns. Service booths have been set up in 41 tax regions across Bangladesh, with 869 tax circles available to offer uninterrupted support through November 30. These centers provide assistance with e-TIN registration, online return registration, e-return filing, and e-payment services.
The NBR’s commitment to fostering a taxpayer-friendly system is reflected in its consistent efforts to enhance tax culture, increase awareness, and build trust.
