Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. Enamul Haque of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) in Dinajpur declared the campus a ragging and drug-free zone on Tuesday, October 29. He made the announcement while leading an anti-ragging and anti-drug rally held on the campus.
The rally, which began in front of the university’s administrative building, circled the main highway and concluded back at the starting point.
Addressing the students, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Enamul Haque expressed concern over the spread of the harmful culture of ragging across educational institutions nationwide. “This trend of ragging is truly distressing and is detracting from the university’s purpose as a center of free knowledge. New students are often mentally distressed from the onset due to ragging practices, which is far from what we envision. Together, we will enforce strict measures to eliminate ragging and drugs from this university.”
The Vice-Chancellor urged the entire university community, including students, to join in supporting this initiative to maintain a ragging and drug-free environment on campus.
