The orientation program for newly admitted students of the 2023-24 academic session was held at Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST). The event, organized by the Student Counseling and Guidance Office, took place in three sessions throughout the day at the university’s central gallery.
Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid, Vice-Chancellor of JUST, attended as the chief guest. Addressing the new students, he emphasized that JUST is a politics- and ragging-free campus. He assured that a zero-tolerance policy would be enforced against any form of harassment. While students should be politically aware, the Vice-Chancellor stressed that no party-based politics is allowed, as per the university’s regulations.
He also mentioned that JUST is currently ranked among the top universities in Bangladesh according to the Times Higher Education rankings. To maintain and further improve this position globally, he called for mutual cooperation between students and faculty. He encouraged students to engage in extracurricular activities alongside their academic studies, which would help develop leadership qualities and shape them into ideal individuals. Hard work, he added, is key to success, and students should set clear goals and work diligently toward achieving them. He advised students to choose good friends, which would make their university journey smoother.
Several deans, provosts, the proctor, and other distinguished guests provided insights into various academic and administrative aspects of the university. Some freshmen also shared their expectations and aspirations for university life, seeking support from their teachers and peers for a smooth “campus life.”
The event began with readings from sacred scriptures and the singing of the national anthem, followed by the formal welcome of new students with flowers and educational materials. After the ceremony, groups of students toured the academic buildings and other parts of the campus. Many captured their first day of university life on their phones, and the JUST campus buzzed with excitement throughout the day.
The orientation ceremony was presided over by Professor Dr. Md. Mir Mosharraf Hossain, Director of the Student Counseling and Guidance Office. Other prominent attendees included Dean Professor Dr. H.M. Zakir Hossain, Professor Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam, Professor Dr. Shirin Nigar, Professor Dr. Md. Zafirul Islam, Dr. Md.
