The newly formed 13-member committee of ECS Computer City (Multiplan Center) officially took charge on Monday night at a “Meet and Greet-2024” event held at the Marriott Convention Center in Dhaka. The committee also announced a 10-member advisory board at the event.
During the presentation, the new committee revealed a fact-finding report, highlighting several irregularities and corruption within the market over the past years. It was disclosed that no financial records or documents were kept by the previous committee for 17 years. Additionally, no one from the finance department could be held accountable. The committee is now faced with managing a depleted fund, a non-functional air conditioning system, six faulty escalators, and illegal parking encroachments.
The event was attended by various stakeholders, including business owners, IT experts, and notable figures from the technology and business sectors.
The new committee, chaired by Mohammad Zahirul Islam, Managing Director of Smart Technologies (BD), introduced other key members, including Nazrul Islam Hazarika, Managing Director of Welkin Computers, who will serve as the Member Secretary.
Other notable members include Senior Joint Convenor Wahidul Hasan Dipu, Joint Convenors Ahsanul Islam Naushad and Ehteshamul Haque, and Finance Member Muhammad Monirul Islam, among others.
In his address, Mohammad Zahirul Islam urged for unity among all market stakeholders to work towards the betterment of the market. He expressed his belief that under the new committee’s leadership, ECS Computer City would not only flourish in Bangladesh but also gain international recognition as a premier computer market.
Nazrul Islam Hazarika highlighted the need for a well-structured business plan and continuous technological improvement to ensure the market’s success in facing new challenges.
The event also saw the introduction of the advisory committee, which includes prominent members such as Saeed-ul-Munir, Rafiq Anwar, and Nazrul Islam Milon, among others. The central coordinator for the advisory board is Abu Tuhin Chowdhury.
