AHM Shafiquzzaman, Secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Employment, remarked that Walton is closely associated with the ministry, playing a significant role in employment generation by developing a skilled workforce in Bangladesh. He emphasized Walton’s key contribution to the national economy, noting that the company manufactures electronics and tech products like refrigerators, air conditioners, and televisions locally—products that were once imported at a high cost in foreign currency. This shift has saved substantial foreign exchange, with Walton now exporting to 44 countries across four continents, further bolstering the country’s foreign reserves.
The Secretary shared these views during the inaugural ceremony of Walton’s Regional IT Fair held at ECS Computer City in Dhaka’s Multiplan Center on Thursday evening, October 17.
Walton Digi-Tech Industries Limited organized the IT fair to raise awareness about e-waste and promote the use of locally made tech products. The fair at ECS Computer City on Elephant Road will run from October 18 to October 21, after which it will be held in all eight divisional cities across the country.
The IT fair offers customers up to a 20% discount on Walton’s new IT products through an exchange offer for old and non-functional items, as well as exclusive online discounts of up to 50% on e-Plaza. Various special gifts are also available with the purchase of Walton computer products.
Additional Managing Director of Walton Digi-Tech Industries Limited, Liaquat Ali; Member Secretary of ECS Computer City, Nazrul Islam Hazar, and Co-Convener Wahidul Islam Dipu were also present at the event.
In his address, Secretary Shafiquzzaman praised Walton’s computer exchange offer, noting that it benefits both e-waste management and consumers, who receive discounts on new products by trading in their old or damaged electronics. He urged everyone to support local manufacturers by purchasing domestically produced goods, which would reduce import dependence, foster industrialization, and create employment opportunities, contributing to the overall prosperity of the national economy.
Liaquat Ali highlighted that the current “Computer Exchange Offer Season 4” allows customers to trade in functional or non-functional laptops, desktops, all-in-one PCs, monitors, printers, tablets, speakers, and CCTV products from any brand for up to a 20% discount on equivalent Walton products. This offer also applies to installment purchases over six months. Additionally, e-Plaza customers can avail themselves of up to a 50% discount on select IT products, with free gifts available on various items. All these benefits are available at the divisional IT fairs.
