The BASIS Reform Council held a press conference at the National Press Club on Thursday afternoon, calling for structural reforms within the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS). The council’s coordinators, including Zulhas Miazi, Mizanur Rahman, Moniruzzaman, Fouzia, and Mustakin Billah, outlined their proposed reform agenda.
During the event, the council presented a three-point reform proposal along with eight specific demands. Key demands include the resignation of all current executive committee members, the cancellation of fake or proxy memberships, the renewal of memberships for affected members, and the dissolution of the arbitrary platform known as the “President Forum.”
Explaining the necessity for reform, the council stated that, for the past 16 years, leaders of the BASIS board and their proxy companies have been directly involved in corruption and misuse of billions of taka in the name of building “Digital Bangladesh” and “Smart Bangladesh” under the leadership of then-ICT Adviser to the Prime Minister Sajeeb Wazed Joy, State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, and Minister Anisul Haque, among others.
