The web film “Begumpara,” directed by actor and filmmaker Kamal Hossain, portrays the stories of five families living lavishly in Toronto, Canada, symbolizing the illicit wealth generated by money laundering from Bangladesh. The film is set to be released soon on a domestic OTT platform.
“Begumpara” explores the lives of various individuals, including politicians and businessmen from Bangladesh, who have amassed substantial wealth through illegal means. According to the filmmaker, these individuals enjoy a lifestyle in Canada that is extravagant and opulent, indulging their spouses and children in every whim.
Kamal Hossain stated, “The residents of this Begumpara possess fortunes amounting to hundreds of millions. They revel in expensive cars, luxurious homes, and lavish parties, appearing in no way like typical Bangladeshis due to their extravagant lifestyles. Many of these people are involved in politics, currency exchange businesses, and the unlawful transfer of funds from the country. It is well-known that some have sent money abroad at the expense of Bangladesh. The film captures their stories.”
The shooting of the film commenced earlier this year, featuring both Bangladeshi and expatriate actors. The cast includes prominent figures such as Afran Ahmed, Asif Nasari, Unnaysha Nair, Ishrat Jahan, Naima Ferdousi, and Iffat Sharmin, alongside a production team from Bangladesh.
