In recognition of the invaluable contributions of teachers to nation-building, Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) celebrated World Teachers’ Day 2024 in alignment with global observances. The event aimed to honor and encourage all teachers through various activities, including a vibrant procession and speeches.
The celebration commenced on Saturday at 11:00 AM with a colorful procession that began in front of the Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose Academic Building and concluded in front of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Academic Building. The Dean of the Faculty of Biological Science and Technology, Professor Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam, delivered the closing remarks.
In his address, Professor Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam emphasized the importance of upholding the dignity of teachers at all levels, from primary to university education. He expressed hope that both the state and society would become more aware of the significance of respecting teachers through the observance of this day. He also expressed optimism that future celebrations would be even larger and more enthusiastic.
The procession was attended by prominent faculty members, including Professor Dr. H.M. Zakir Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology; Professor Dr. Shirin Nigar, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology; Professor Dr. Md. Zafirul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Health Science; Dr. Mohammad Kamal Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies; Professor Dr. Md. Ziaul Amin, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine; Proctor Md. Amjad Hossain; various department heads; residential hall provosts; and other teachers from across the university.
According to the Ministry of Education, World Teachers’ Day has been celebrated annually on October 5 since 1995 in over 100 countries. Education International and its 401 affiliate organizations play a key role in organizing this global event. The theme for World Teachers’ Day 2024 is “Valuing Teachers’ Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education.”
