A doctor in Mymensingh city was killed when his mobile phone, which was left charging, exploded while he was asleep. The tragic incident occurred early Friday morning at his residence in the Zamir Munshi area of the city. It is unclear which brand of phone caused the explosion, and the victim’s family has not disclosed any information. The body was buried without an autopsy.
The deceased was identified as Dr. Tariqul Alam (42), an assistant professor in the Orthopedics Department at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. He was the son of the late Taher Uddin from the Garib Zamir Munshi area of the city.
Tariqul’s brother, Tasrikul Alam, filed an application with the Additional District Magistrate on Friday requesting the body be released without an autopsy, and a similar request was made to the police. The family has refrained from speaking about the incident.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Model Police Station, Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan, reported that Dr. Tariqul returned home around 1 a.m. after completing surgery at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. To avoid disturbing his family, he slept in a separate room. He plugged his mobile phone into a nearby power strip to charge and fell asleep. It is believed that the phone exploded while charging, causing severe burns to his body. The specific brand of the mobile phone remains unknown. As there were no complaints from the family, the body was handed over to them.
According to family sources, the explosion severely burned Tariqul’s hands, chest, and face while he slept. Noticing the smell of burning and hearing a noise, family members broke into the room and rushed him to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
