In 2007, the High Court suspended the effectiveness of the letter issued by the then government canceling the broadcasting of CSB, a news-oriented private television channel.
As a result, there is no obstacle to return to CSB channel broadcasting, said the lawyer.
The High Court bench of Justice Kamrul Hossain Mollah and Justice Kazi Zeenat Haque passed the order after hearing a supplementary petition made by the managing director of that institution on Monday (September 23).
Lawyer Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon was in favor of the application in the court. The Managing Director of the Channel is Fazlul Quader Chowdhury (Fayyaz), son of late BNP leader Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury (executed to death for alleged crimes against humanity).
During the One Eleven caretaker government, the Ministry of Information issued a letter on September 6, 2007 canceling the no-objection to broadcast all types of news and entertainment video programs/films by CSB. Besides, BTRC also issued two letters. Challenging the validity of these three letters, the managing director of the company, Fazlul Quader Chowdhury (Fayaz), filed a writ in the High Court in 2008. On February 9, 2009, the High Court issued a ruling. Later there was no further hearing on that rule. Recently after the fall of the Awami League government, a supplementary petition was made to suspend the proceedings of those three letters. On that petition, the High Court suspended the proceedings of those letters on Monday. As a result, there is no obstacle to return to CSB broadcasting, said lawyer Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon.
Fazlul Quader Chowdhury (Fayyaz) said that the machineries that were there have become ineffective. Technology has changed. Still, we can bring it quite quickly. I can bring it in a few months. We were the first 24 hours news channel. But unfortunately, my father could not see today’s news.
