VCs has been appointed in most of the universities in the country, but no permanent VC has yet been appointed in Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology, Gazipur. As a result, the students protested to demand the appointment of a qualified person from among the teachers of DUET as VC.
On Wednesday (September 18) at 11:15 pm, the procession started from the Bakultala premises of DUET Campus and ended by going through the 2nd gate of the campus to the main gate of the campus via Dhaka-Shimultoli Road. During this time, they raised various slogans, which included, “BUET and CUET got VCs, why not in DUET? We have only one demand, we want VC from DUET”.
Mohammad Amanullah, a student of Mechanical Engineering Department spoke on behalf of the present students.
He said, like all other universities, the VC should be appointed in DUET as soon as possible and the VC should be appointed from among the teachers of DUET. DUET students will not accept any dictator’s ally as VC. Also, if a VC is appointed from outside the DUET will be declared Persona non grata in the campus.
From September 1, the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Dr. Arefin Kawsar has been in charge of academic, administrative and financial affairs.
