In order to find a quick and effective solution to the traffic congestion problem in Dhaka, the capital with 20 million people residents, the Chief Advisor of the interim government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus met two experts from BUET along with Traffic Police. He instructed the experts to fix the signaling system in the meeting held at the State Guest House Jamuna on Monday (September 16).
In the meeting, BUET experts were asked to find some useful solutions with the help of students in at least one traffic area. At the same time the experts of BUET are asked to find some own solutions with the help of their students in at least one traffic corridor and fix the signaling system using their own expertise.
Transport and traffic system expert Professor Moazzem Hossain of BUET presented a documentary in the meeting. He said, “At least Tk 40 thousand crores is lost in the country due to the traffic congestion of Dhaka city alone.” At this time, civil engineering professor of BUET Dr. Hadiuzzaman was present.
Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Lieutenant General (retd) Abdul Hafeez and Additional Commissioner of DMP Farooq Ahmed also spoke in the meeting, sources in Chief Adviser’s press wing informed the matter.
In the press release sent by the press wing of the Chief Adviser, the Chief Adviser said in the meeting, we have to reduce the traffic congestion. We need to find a solution soon.
It was also informed that the traffic police was urged to take some pilot projects to reduce traffic congestion like limiting the bus stopping time to less than two minutes at two-three important road stations and later on taking similar measures on other roads of the city.
