The ongoing semester of Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), Gazipur started on December 26 last year but has not ended yet. Meanwhile, if everything goes well, the postponed examination of the current semester will begin on September 17. After that 23 September review, 4th year result with thesis defense will be published on 6th October, other year result will be published on 3rd October. As per the new academic calendar, the new semester classes will start from 1st October.
The student welfare director Dr. Utpal Kumar said “The examination results and clearance of the accused students will be suspended until the investigation process is over” and an urgent notification in this regard was published on the DUET website and the seat allocation of the accused students has been temporarily suspended during the investigation.
He also said, this claim of the students is not correct that “DUET Administration is saving Chhatra League leaders-activists with special security measures”.
When asked about the examination, he said that since the trial process is going on, and those against whom the complaint has been filed, they have not been proven guilty until the trial process is over, so we cannot stop them from taking the exam. Regarding the accused students, the prosecution assured that the trial process would be completed quickly and for this a 7-member investigation committee was formed and the students were also informed that the current investigation process is ongoing.
After the fall of the dictatorial regime on August 5, ordinary students started returning to the campus. The students demanded that the trial of the BCL leaders who harassed the students and obstructed the movement should be tried immediately, and they also announced that they will not sit for the examination if the trial is not completed. In view of this, the ongoing examination was scheduled to be held on September 15 (Sunday) as per the earlier notice. According to the decision, DUET administration has confirmed that the results and other activities will be conducted as per the previous academic calendar, even though the examination will be postponed by two days after consultation with the students of all years. The students were also informed that some preliminary activities of the investigation process have been completed.
